Three Dog Night – “Out In the Country”

All I can say is WOW!!!  This must be one of the greatest songs of the 70s!

Have you ever just wanted to get out of the city and head to the country to just get away from all the craziness and smog?  I know I have and still think about it each time I am stuck on the interstate in traffic.

This song will take you away, it gets into your head, relaxes you, and you can’t help but feel those human urges, and how awesomely good this song makes you feel.  I could put my headphones on, sit back, close my eyes and allow my mind to drift away out in the country.

“Out in the Country” is a song written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols and performed by Three Dog Night. It was produced by Richard Podolor and was featured on their 1970 album, It Ain’t Easy. In the US, “Out in the Country” peaked at # 11 on the US adult contemporary chart, and number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 17, 1970. Outside the US, the record reached # 9 in Canada, Released in the first year of Earth Day, “Out in the Country” was an early environmental advocacy song. The lyrics are about finding solace outside the city, “before the breathing air is gone…”

Song Lyrics –

Whenever I need to leave it all behind
Or feel the need to getaway
I find a quiet place, far from the human race
Out in the country
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin’ worth rememberin’
Whenever I feel them closing in on me
Or need a bit of room to move
When life becomes too fast, I find relief at last
Out in the country
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin’ worth rememberin’
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin’ worth rememberin’
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin’ worth rememberin’
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime…
I stand alone…
