Barry White – “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little A Little More Baby”

“I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little A Little More Baby” is one of Barry’s greatest hits. It reminds me of one of my aunts who was a huge fan of everything Barry White.

When Barry White wrote this seductive tune from his debut album, he was working out of a small office in Los Angeles, where he dreamed up songs for other artists. He had already written and produced “It May Be Winter Outside (But In My Heart It’s Spring)” for Felice Taylor and the hit “Walkin’ In The Rain With The One I Love” for Love Unlimited. He was brainstorming ideas for a male singer when the music for “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby” hit him one night. He knew in his heart his own voice was right for the song, but the prospect terrified him. By the time he let his business partner, Larry Nunes, in on the secret, he had written enough material for an entire album.

“What I was doing was fighting my destiny,” White confessed to Billboard. “So I gave in to him. I cut the album.”

This hit #1 on the R&B chart, but it was a fight to get it released. White’s label, 20th Century Records, didn’t like the album and thought the songs were too long. Thankfully, he had help from another artist on the roster: Elton John. Says White: “Elton John heard a dub of my album and he stole it. He took it to London and he took it home with him to convince some people that this might be the thing. And ‘I’m Gonna Love You’ took about six months to break.”
Ray Parker Jr., who went on to write and record the Ghostbusters theme, played guitar on the track, along with Dean Parks, David T. Walker, and Wah Wah Watson. Aside from White on the piano, the rest of the crew included bassists Nathan East and Willie Felder, drummer Ed Greene, and vibraphone player Gary Coleman.
In the 2001 Friends episode “The One With Ross and Monica’s Cousin,” this plays every time the Gellers’ cousin Cassie (Denise Richards) flips her hair.

It was also used in the TV show Cold Case (“The Runner” – 2003) and the movies LOL (2012), Bringing Down The House (2003), Kissing Jessica Stein (2001), and High Fidelity (2000).

Summer Walker recorded a cover for the 2020 movie Birds of Prey. During her more orchestrated version, the Atlanta singer switches up the pronouns of the original.

Song Lyrics –

It feels so good
You lying here next to me
Oh, what a groove
You have no idea how it feels

My hands just won’t keep still
I love you, baby
Oh, I love you, I love you, I love you
I just want to hold you

Run my fingers through your hair
Ooh
Outta sight
Uh-huh, right there, you like it like that

Closer
Come here, closer, close
Oh, baby
Oh, baby

Give it up, ain’t no use
I can help myself if I’d wanted to
I’m hung up, no doubt
I’m so in love with you, for me there’s no way out

‘Cause deeper and deeper
In love with you I’m falling
Sweeter and sweeter
Your tender words of love keeps calling

Eager and eager, yeah
To feel your lips upon my face
Please her and please her
Any time or any place

I’m gonna love you, love you, love you just a little more, baby
I’m gonna need you, need you, need you every day
I’m gonna want you, want you, want you in every way

Yeah, give me something girl, for I’ll hold back knowin’
This time it looks like love is here to stay
As long as I shall live
I’ll give you all I have and all I have to give

‘Cause please her and please her
Any time or any place
Eager and eager
To feel your sweet lips on my face

Deeper and deeper
In love with you I’m falling, yeah
Sweeter and sweeter
Your tender words of love keeps calling

I’m gonna love you, love you, love you just a little more, baby
I’m gonna need you, need you, need you every day
I’m gonna want you, want you, want you in every way

    1. It’s funny you said that, because I have thought the same thing, and have heard friends say either Barry White or Morgan Freeman! Morgan’s voice doesn’t have a deep rumbling sound, so I would have to stick with Barry White. Are there any other singers out there with as deep of a baritone voice as he had? I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

        1. That is just fine, Max…I understand completely. I am so busy wearing a ton of different hats these days until I don’t know if I am coming or going.

You’re absolutely right, Barry is the man with the voice and the only one who could ever be the voice of God!

                1. We are all well these days, we’ve had lots of rain down here, but I have enjoyed it, and always do as long as there is no hail or tornadoes involved. I have been busy with work myself, and still working on getting this blog in tip top shape. I am getting there, and learning so many things as I trug along.

I hope you and your family are well and staying dry. Get some rest, and have a great weekend!

                    1. There’s nothing like a good, gentle rain that calms and soothes the soul. One that you can climb on the sofa or lie in bed and snuggle up with a good hot cup of tea and a book, or watch a good movie.

Speaking of Yard Sales, I love driving around checking them out. Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough!
Before my husband passed away, we had a blast going to yard sales. I haven’t been to one in a while now.

                    2. Oh I wish it would rain today….it’s so HOT here with the humidity in the crazy range

Oh we love yard sales….its like a treasure hunt
